Identity in Christ

Who You Already Are

Core Discipleship Workbook · Essential Doctrines

Teaching Points

  • 1

Your identity is not determined by your performance, your past, or other people's opinions. It is determined by what God says about you.

  • 2

In Christ, you are: forgiven, adopted, justified, redeemed, chosen, and sealed. These are not things you earn — they are things you receive.

  • 3

The enemy's primary strategy is identity theft — making you forget who you are so you live like someone you're not.

  • 4

Behavior change flows from identity, not the other way around. You don't act your way into a new identity — you live from the identity God already gave you.

  • 5

The most important thing you can know is not what you do but who you are.

Reflection Questions

  1. 1

Which aspect of your identity in Christ feels most real to you right now? Which feels most distant?

  2. 2

How does the enemy try to make you forget who you are?

  3. 3

If you fully believed you are forgiven, loved, and chosen — what would change about today?

  4. 4

What identity lie have you been believing that needs to be replaced with truth?

Action Steps

  • 1

Write down 5 'In Christ, I am...' statements and put them where you'll see them daily.

  • 2

Each morning this week, declare one identity truth before you start your day.

  • 3

When you feel shame or inadequacy this week, name it and counter it with what God says.
