← What It Means to Be a Christian
ETS ACADEMY · LESSON 4
Salvation & Grace
Teaching points
- Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. It is not earned by good behavior, church attendance, or religious performance.
- Grace is not God saying 'It's okay' — it is God paying the price He did not owe, for people who could never pay it.
- Justification is a declaration of righteousness. God removes our guilt, gives it to Christ, and takes Christ's righteousness and gives it to us — the Great Exchange.
- Sanctification is the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit — changing us from the inside out. It is not instant perfection but progressive transformation.
- The Gospel is not just for conversion — it is for every day. We live by grace, grow by grace, and are saved by grace.
Read in Scripture
- Ephesians 2:8-9
- Romans 5:15-17
- 2 Corinthians 5:21
- Romans 8:1
- Philippians 1:6
Reflect
- Do you truly believe salvation is by grace — or are you still trying to earn it?
- How does the Great Exchange (your guilt for Christ's righteousness) change the way you relate to God?
- What is the difference between justification (instant) and sanctification (ongoing)?
- How does the Gospel apply to your everyday life — not just your salvation?
Put it into practice
- Memorize Ephesians 2:8-9.
- Write out what the Great Exchange means to you personally.
- Every morning this week, declare: 'I am saved by grace, not by performance.'
