ETS ACADEMY · LESSON 1

Welcome to Your Ministry

Teaching points

  • Ministry is not for professionals — it is for every believer. The priesthood of all believers is not a metaphor — it is a mandate.
  • Ephesians 4:11-12: God gave leaders to equip the saints for the work of ministry. The work is yours, not theirs.
  • Your ministry is not your job title — it is your function in the body. It may be behind the scenes or on a stage.
  • Ministry flows from identity. You serve because of who you are, not to become something.
  • The goal of ministry is not church growth — it is Kingdom growth. Sometimes that means sending, not gathering.

Read in Scripture

  • Ephesians 4:11-12
  • 1 Peter 4:10-11
  • Romans 12:4-8
  • Acts 20:24
  • Colossians 3:23-24

Reflect

  • Do you see yourself as someone who has a ministry, or someone who attends a church?
  • What ministry has God already placed in your hands that you haven't fully stepped into?
  • How does knowing your ministry flows from identity change the way you serve?
  • What would it look like to serve with excellence — not for approval, but from overflow?

Put it into practice

  • Identify one area of ministry where you can serve this month.
  • Write a personal ministry statement: 'My ministry is ______ and I do it because ______.'
  • Talk to a leader about how your gifts fit into the body.
