ETS ACADEMY · LESSON 3
The Pastor's Heart
Teaching points
- Pastoral care is not just for pastors. Every mature believer should know how to shepherd others.
- To shepherd is to know, feed, lead, and protect. It requires presence, not just programs.
- People are not projects — they are people. Ministry happens in the margins, not just on the platform.
- The good shepherd lays down his life. Ministry costs something. If it doesn't cost you anything, it may not be ministry.
- Boundaries are not unloving — they are necessary. You cannot pour from an empty vessel.
Read in Scripture
- John 10:11-15
- 1 Peter 5:2-4
- Ezekiel 34:23
- 2 Timothy 2:24-26
- Galatians 6:1-2
Reflect
- Who are you currently shepherding — even informally?
- What does it cost you to care for others? Is the cost worth it?
- Do you have boundaries in your ministry, or are you running on empty?
- How does Jesus' model of the Good Shepherd shape the way you lead?
Put it into practice
- Identify 3-5 people you are currently walking with spiritually.
- Set one boundary this week to protect your capacity for ministry.
- Pray by name for the people God has placed in your care.
