ETS ACADEMY · LESSON 5
The Leader's Soul
Teaching points
- Burnout is not a badge of honor — it is a failure of stewardship. You cannot pour from an empty vessel.
- The enemy's strategy for leaders is not always dramatic failure — sometimes it is slow erosion through success, busyness, or isolation.
- Sabbath is not a suggestion — it is a command. Rest is not laziness. It is obedience.
- Leaders need leaders. If no one is pastoring the pastor, the pastor will eventually fall.
- Your relationship with God is not a ministry tool — it is the source of everything. Protect it above all.
Read in Scripture
- Mark 6:31
- Exodus 20:8-11
- Psalm 23
- Isaiah 40:31
- Matthew 11:28-30
Reflect
- How is your soul — not your ministry, your schedule, or your strategy? Your soul?
- When was the last time you rested without guilt?
- Who is pouring into you? Who is pastoring the pastor?
- What boundary do you need to set to protect your relationship with God?
Put it into practice
- Schedule a sabbath — a real one — and protect it.
- Identify one person who can speak into your life as a leader.
- Audit your week: How much time is devoted to your own spiritual nourishment?
