ETS ACADEMY · LESSON 1
The Discipleship Covenant
Teaching points
- Discipleship is not a class — it is a lifestyle. It is following Jesus in every area of life, not just on Sundays.
- A covenant is different from a contract. A contract says 'I'll do my part if you do yours.' A covenant says 'I'm all in, regardless.'
- Growth requires commitment: to God's Word, to prayer, to community, and to mission.
- The CORE model: Christ-centered, Others-focused, Relationally accountable, Engaged in mission.
- You cannot grow alone. Discipleship happens in relationship — with God and with others.
Read in Scripture
- Luke 9:23
- Matthew 16:24-25
- 2 Timothy 2:2
- Proverbs 27:17
- Colossians 2:6-7
Reflect
- Have you made a conscious commitment to follow Jesus as a disciple? What does that look like?
- What is the difference between believing in Jesus and following Jesus?
- Who is investing in your growth right now? Who are you investing in?
- What would change if you treated discipleship as a lifestyle, not a program?
Put it into practice
- Write out your personal discipleship covenant — what you're committing to before God.
- Find one person who will hold you accountable to growth.
- Commit to the daily rhythm: Word, prayer, community, mission.
