ETS ACADEMY · LESSON 1

The Acts 2:42-47 Vision

Teaching points

  • Acts 2:42-47 is not a historical footnote — it is the blueprint. The early church devoted themselves to teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer.
  • They had everything in common, sold possessions to meet needs, and met together with glad and sincere hearts. This was not communism — it was generosity born of transformation.
  • The Lord added to their number daily. Growth was the result of faithfulness, not marketing strategy.
  • Every church planting decision should be measured against this pattern: Are we teaching? Are we in fellowship? Are we breaking bread? Are we praying? Are we generous?
  • The early church did not have buildings, programs, or staff. They had presence, power, and community. That is enough.

Read in Scripture

  • Acts 2:42-47
  • Acts 4:32-35
  • Acts 5:12-16
  • Matthew 16:18
  • 1 Corinthians 3:6

Reflect

  • How does your current church experience compare to the Acts 2 model?
  • What would need to change for your church to look more like Acts 2:42-47?
  • Which element — teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, or prayer — is strongest in your context? Which is weakest?
  • What would it look like to plant a church that starts with this blueprint from day one?

Put it into practice

  • Memorize Acts 2:42-47.
  • Read through Acts 2 and identify every characteristic of the early church.
  • Write a one-page vision statement for a church built on the Acts 2 pattern.
