ETS ACADEMY · LESSON 3
Missions & Movements
Teaching points
- The Great Commission has always been the church's primary mission. Every great movement started with ordinary people saying 'send me.'
- William Carey, the father of modern missions, went to India in 1793. He was told 'sit down, young man' — he didn't.
- The modern missions movement (1800s-1900s) sent thousands of missionaries to every continent.
- Today, the Global South (Africa, Asia, Latin America) is sending missionaries back to the West. The center of Christianity has shifted.
- Church planting movements in the Global South offer lessons for the West: simplicity, multiplication, and reliance on the Holy Spirit.
Read in Scripture
- Isaiah 6:8
- Romans 10:14-15
